We are in search of a Transportation Supervisor to join our growing team. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet operations and transportation logistics to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of products and materials. This role manages drivers, routing, and scheduling while maintaining compliance with all DOT and company policies. The Transportation Supervisor plays a key role in optimizing transportation performance, controlling costs, and supporting overall business objectives.
In addition to day-to-day operational oversight, the Transportation Supervisor is expected to lead and develop a high-performing team, implement continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate cross-functionally to enhance service levels and operational efficiency. This position requires strong leadership, analytical thinking, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a dynamic logistics environment.
Responsibilities Include:
- Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and develop drivers, dispatchers, and support staff.
- Use Samsara telematics to monitor driver behavior and coach performance.
- Conduct ride-alongs and field evaluations to ensure service quality and safety.
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Routing & Dispatch Operations
- Oversee daily routing, scheduling, and dispatching.
- Maintain routing systems (e.g., Omnitracs) and assign vehicles based on delivery needs.
- Coordinate with third-party carriers for overflow or specialized deliveries.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
- Maintain Driver Qualification files and oversee incident reporting.
- Conduct safety audits and manage regulatory documentation.
- Partner with HR to support union agreements and labor standards.
- Customer Service & Issue Resolution
- Collaborate with Customer Service, Warehouse, and Sales to meet delivery expectations.
- Resolve transportation-related issues and customer complaints promptly.
- Align service strategies across departments.
- Operational Efficiency & Budget Management
- Monitor fleet performance, fuel usage, and maintenance schedules.
- Manage transportation budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Track KPIs such as delivery rates, fuel efficiency, and driver productivity.
- Implement process improvements and maintain accurate operational records.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory updates.
- Perform other duties as needed to support department goals.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- 5+ years in transportation, logistics, or fleet management, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- CDL license and/or commercial driving experience preferred.
- Experience managing both company-owned and contracted fleets.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, fleet safety, and transportation best practices.
- Skilled in TMS, route optimization, and telematics platforms like Samsara.
- Familiarity with lean logistics or continuous improvement is a plus.
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Skills
- Strong leadership, organization, and multitasking abilities.
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset with effective communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and transportation software.
Physical Requirements
- Able to conduct ride-alongs, field evaluations, and warehouse walkthroughs.
- Capable of sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
- Valid Driver’s License required; DOT Certification preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
The pay range for this role is $80,000 to $86,000/year. This range represents what the company reasonably expects to pay an associate for this role based on current market data, internal equity, and other business factors. The actual compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations.
